How long do I leave establish media in a new tank after using it to cycle?

Recently used media from an established tank to avoid a cycle on a 10 gallon tank for 3 dwarf puffers. Which worked. Ammonia and Nitrites were immediately changed to Nitrates.

I used water from the old tank (some people say this doesn't help, but it certainly doesn't hurt). I cut a filter from an Aquaclear 70 for the Aquaclear 20 filter.

I put the rest rest of the filter in the tank, and a nylon full of substrate from an established tank.

I also used bacteria in a bottle.

My question is how long do I have to leave in the extra sponge and nylon?

It is taking up quite a bit of swimming distance in the small tank. I'm wondering if it stays in for weeks or months.

Two week's would be minimum in my opinion.
Lot's of plant's,, maybe less, but what some folk's consider lot's of plant's differ's so two week's would be minimum in my view.

The most important medication in your fish medicine cabinet is.. Clean water.
