Hornwort, Who has it and what do you know about it?

I have had some hornwort floating in my tanks for sometime but I just planted some and wondered if anyone else has had any luck with planting any of it? Does it rot or will it grow? How tall will it get do you think? How easy or hard is it for you guys?

Don't have it (illegal in my state). Check the information under the "tropical fish profiles" link at the top of this page. Just type Hornwort in the search box.

oops - didn't see you post total - I'm telling you something you already know, sorry

Its great for a nitrate controller, as for planting it seemed you put it in the gravel and the part in the gravel just rotted and uprooted itself every 1 to 2 weeks. Plus its pretty messy, always shedding dead needles. But if you need a nitrate sponge then its in my top two picks, my number one pick for that though would be the ever hated duckweed.

LOL No big. I am just hoping to hear from a few people that have this in their tank and how they like it. Whether or not they have it planted or just floating. Hopefully someone out there will have it and with that some info. Thanks anyway.

We posted at the same time. I kind of thought that would be the case. I don't need the Nitrate sponge as I clean my tanks 2 times a week so no problem there. I just like how it looks and thought it would be nicer if I could get it to stay planted. I had Cabomba for awhile and it looked so nice but then I had plant eating fish that did it in. Now, I can't find it anywhere here. The Hornwort has that similar "pine tree" type look to it. Thought it would be nice if I could get it to reach close to the top of the tank from the bottom. A pine tree forest in my tank. ha ha

It will grow to the top of the tank and keep growing over the top of the water, but your best method of getting it to stay planted, is to hold it down by a rock so its the stem holding it down and now all the needles that fall off.

I have it floating in my tank, and kind of wrapped around an arch decoration. It's in a ten gallon though, so whether it's planted or not it goes from top to bottom.

I hope mine does grow to the top of the tank. I love that as a backdrop, especially if It fills out nice. I understand it grows like weeds so hopefully it will make an effort to take over the back of the tank.
