I went out to get some Hornwort for my tank today. I wanted to use it as a floating plant for my tank, problem I'm finding is that my Fluval 205 current is too strongl.

I have my output at about 60% for the filter and pointed the output end at the wall so the current won't be as strong, this has helped in allowing the plants to float at one end of the tank, bunched up though.

Anyone have suggestions as to how I could make a thin layer of hornwort stay near the surface of the water through my tank instead of bunched up on one end?

Solution= loosely wrapping thread around bunches of hornwort and putting the ends in between my hood and tank. Hopefully the stuff will grow to fill in the areas that don't have any.

I did something similar by attaching fishing line (loosely) around a floating plant and attaching a weight to the other end and hanging it out of my aquarium. Using a weight with a decent length of line is nice because as the water level changes do to evaporation or water changes the plants always stay right at the surface of the water. The trick is to use a weight that is just heavy enough to pull the plants to the surface of the water, but not out of it. You can see how I did it here.
