I'll have the coffee freshly brewed when you arrive. Hot chocolate? Got that on hand as well.

Yeah it stinks. You put a blanket on all your tanks when it storms? How come? In case the power goes out to keep the heat in?

When is it suppose to arrive and when was the last time you had one? I have never been in one, but I know they had one up here a little more than ten years ago and it was really bad. We have some remnants of it in the area....pencil dead pine trees.

I was thinking the other day, that since we live north now with more chances of power outages, I better be prepared or I will panic for my fish. We will have lived here for six years this coming June and we have only had maybe a couple of short power outages, but I did not have fish then. I have heard though that there have been times in these areas from ice storms and/or t-storms, etc., there have been some very long power outages. We do have a generator, but we have never used it, and I don't know how strong it is and what it would be able to run. I need to ask my husband this.

I know they sell battery run air pumps which I think I will get in the near future. I hope that they would be strong enough to attach to the sponge filter.

What kind of blanket do you have for the tanks? Is there anything else I should have on hand in case of a power outage?

I am from San Diego, and when I had fish there as an adult, I remember a couple of power outs but they were not too long, so it did not hurt the tank. I did not have anything on hand though for a long power outage.

I hope your ice storm does not come about.

Knowing Angel she's got a 3,000 watt generator somewhere on her property!

@HollyinWA any time between Thurs PM and Fri AM.... Last BAD one was Feb last year; that's when even KY made the national news cause it was just BADDDD for a long time anything that could be bent down & broken WAS broken by the ice.

And there again Holly...hate to say this now but when your power is out for few days and you have a PLNATED tank you're much better up as these will act like a bio filter....a non planted w/out its filter working for a few days....bad thing....so think about it

Well any normal gasoline generator small size WILL run your fish pump and heat and generally small appliances (one at a time). But you're best up checking your generator BEFORE the power is out...once the power is out you're also NOT going to the gas station to get some gas for it

I just have several thick blankets that the tanks get raped in, in case of....slows down the tank loosing its heat.

@ Kym we have 2 actually but both are sitting at the family cabin right now (1hrs drive from here) sooo if its out too long I'd have to get my booty in the Jeep and pick them up but for just a day for so I'd not even bother, i'd use the kerosene heat, Gas BBQ for dinner and call it even (yea I know I'm lazy lol)
