Have you checked your water supply? I remember Twistersmom had a nitrate reading from her tap water. Maybe check that?

Test your tap water for nitrates, if that is not the problem, doing larger water changes or changing water out twice a week should help lower.

How much water do you normally change out? Are you careful to not over feed?

You beat me to it! Yes, the nitrates in my tap water fluctuate on any given day.

Agree with previous posts, but I'm wondering just what you mean by "high"? Can you give us the number for nitrates? They may not actually be too high...

If it is high, there has to be a reason. And the answer you give to Twistermom's question on water changes will help us on this.

Byron.

P.S. Are there live plants in the aquarium?

Of course nitrates will be less after a pwc, that's one main reason we all do them, but if the nitrates are within the normal range to begin with there is no problem.

I'm sorry, but we can't help you without the nitrate numbers. How do you know it's high? It may not be, for all we know, and reducing feeding your fish for a week probably won't help and could cause other problems.
