Have you tested your water source for Nitrates? And to drop Trates fast, you should be doing 40-50% water change every other day, not weekly. Once you have them down where you want them, then you can do the regular maintenance WC.
I'm new to this site, but I added a glass bead to my bottle so it will mix better - and faster. Works like a charm for me. Found the suggestion somewhere on this site, when I was browsing old threads for information.
