Hi all,

I went to the (no name) Pet store yesterday and was looking for some info on Tanks. I saw a Hexagon tank and I just fell in love with the shape and the overall look of it.

Can you tell me what would be a good size Hexagon start up aquarium?
What material do you recommend, glass or acrylic?
Do you own one? Got any tips?

This is going to be a Tropical Tank set up.

Thanks!

i just got my wife a 45 hex for her birth day and we set it up in the new house and we love it!!! its glass and we fit a filter that was made for a 90 gal on it.. because of height we put a small powerhead in there to keep a good flow of water and get rid of dead spots... we have a 150watt heater in there and sand .. this thing looks really nice i am going to make her a moon light next month to he have that nice bright white light for day time but that cool blue for evening before we shut down for the night.....

I noticed the Acrylic hexagon had round edges, like if it was molded in one piece.
I did not see a Glass made hexagon tank yesterday but it makes me wonder...
Are the edges glued? or do they also makes them in one piece?
I hope my question makes sense.

I had a hex tank many years ago when I was a teenager. It was small... only 5 gallons if I remember correctly. But it was glass, and I don't remember if it was one piece or not, but if it was sealed pieces, the sealant wasn't very visible.

In my limited experience, I like glass tanks better than acrylic. Acrylic may be stronger, but it always has rounded edges, and I don't like that. My kid's small tank is acrylic, and if you look at it from the side, everything is distorted because of the rounded corners, and it would seem that with a hex you're going to be looking at a corner no matter what angle you look at it from.

perfect sense.. i have a few 2 gal hexes and yes they are made in one piece.. no the glass ones are not they are separate panels and they are held in place by the trim and silicone.. i like the glass look a bit better but thats just because i like the old school look to everything,, LOL....

Yeah... after thinking about it, it might not have been one piece, and I edited my post to reflect my poor memory. It was like 20 years ago that I had the tank... it probably was separate panels discreetly sealed.

I would imagine if they do make them, they would be quite expensive.
But I would not mind the expense to be honest.
Anyone has one? ;-)

OK. So I might have to settle for an Acrylic Hexagon tank then.
The ones in Display yesterday were manufactured by TRUVU.

TRUVU® Aquariums: Aquarium, Fish Tank and Aquarium Filter Factory

Is this a good Aquarium Company? Good Quality?
Are there other competitors?
