Help!! Orange algae and thick whitish cloudiness

My tank was perfectly clear yesterday. This morning I noticed a very small brown patch and assumed it was just a minor patch of algae. I just came home from work to find almost the entire tank floor covered in very orange-looking algae. I wouldn't be too nervous about this except that there is a thick white cloudiness coming from the orange areas (it almost looks like mist rising). I've attached pictures. My fish seems to be okay and my parameters are normal.

What should I do? Is my fish okay in this tank or should I move him to a qt tank while I figure out what's going on?

I'm sorry if this is a minor problem, this is my first tank and I'm not sure what to do about it.

Thank you!

The algae looks like it might be diatoms, which is common in new tanks.

Put a bag of purigen in your filter, and add seachem excel if you will be planted. It fights off algae and is more easily absorbed by the plants you want. Diatoms suck, but Purigen and 5 nerites knocked mine out. Along with a crapton of plants. Go get 5 bunchea of anacharis...super cheap and will overfight the diatoms for nutrients....the Anacharis will win. And they are like.....2.99 for 10 stems. Just float them. They arw incredibly low maintenance.
