Hey Matt!

Get that kit I told you about and test your waters. If they are deemed "safe" start adding fish a little at a time. 3-5 will do. Then wait a month before adding more. In the meantime, test weekly until ammonia and nitrites start spiking. Then start testing daily and follow the recommendations on the kit. When everything starts reading near '0' again... you're goo to go to add more fish. Keep testing after every fish you add.

Bottom line: It's trial and error for all of us. Nothing tests the same depending on where you are, and what you have.

Hi and welcome to the forum : )

I would definitely just browse the forum threads and get informed before choosing and adding your fish. You want to understand the cycling process (might search "cycling" on this forum) and you want to make sure that you can provide the right environment for the fish that you want to get (maybe search "stocking" or something in this forum). Lots of us have posted about our successes and mistakes, so it might help to just browse this site before diving in fins-deep : )

Fish appreciate a tank that is "ready" for them...they will thank you for it by staying alive and healthy.
