Help! My new tank isn't filtering...

I got an Aqua-Tech Hex-5 about a month ago, everything was working alright up until today when I cleaned the parts and put it back together. When I plug it in it just makes mechanical noises, no water running through...
I read the manual again and did everything it said to, but it's still not working...
:(

any suggestions?

Is this an HOB (hang on back) filter? Did you try priming it by adding water to the back of the filter when you turned it on?

Oh goodness, I'm so bad at this.... first fish since I was like 5 so I have no idea what any of that means. Just put water in the filter area? It's the intake that isn't working I guess, there's no water going though
