i don't know anything about aquarium salt,so i'm unable to help you,
however,i would say that if you are still getting readings for Ammonia,
then water changes will help to keep it at a low content,which hopefully
your fish will tolerate until your filter is coping.

when you set up a new tank,hide an extra
sponge or two behind some decor,that way you have
something seeded for you next filter.
