I use led's on a few of my larger cichlid tanks. They are connected to a timer for use as an artificial lunar cycle. The tanks are homes to Malawian, Victorian(of course), South American(discus, Festivums, and assorted dwarfs), and Tanganyikans. I have noticed that these fish are more colorful, active, and productive than similar tanks housing similar species. I also use lunar lights on a 125g planted tank. This tank is a real good looker, especially with the room lights off and just the lunar lights on. All of the tanks seem to look very good when the light is like this.
I believe that the addition of lunar led's helps the fish, plants and adds a unique view for the keeper.
I must also say that $30 seems a little high. You may want to check out www.petsolutions.com
. This is where I got mine. They are modular in concept and more can be added to the single light. Up to 6 on a string.
