Granite "countertop" material in a tank.

I stopped at the local stone store over the weekend looking for natural granite. They didn't have any but they gave me a bunch of broken/trimmed pieces of the material they use for granite counter tops. The top is finished and the bottom still looks raw.

The lady that was helping me didn't know if they used any chemicals to seal or finish the top of the rock...

Does anyone know if they use a sealant or other chemicals that would be harmful to the aquarium, or do they just wet sand it to get the finished look?

This stuff was free and would look pretty cool in an aquarium, but I am just not sure if its safe to drop in there.
