Thanks for the advice! I've soaked and rinsed and soaked rocks until my hands are well-exfoliated...Rocks are now in the tank.

Now...the next question....can I use water from my 30 gallon to keep from having to cycle the new one? Just curious...

I'm working on the filter tomorrow....I'll attack it with vinegar now that I know I can do that! Thanks so much!!!

When a tank is "cycled" it has nothing to do with your water. It means that you have nitrifying bacteria on surfaces in your tank(mainly your filter), not in the water. So you will not be able to use the water to cycle the new tank, however if you wanted to add your current filter to the new tank along with the filter it came with it will allow you to add fish right away. You will be able to take the old filter out in a couple weeks and viola! cycled tank.

white vinigar and a razor blade will remove the deposits. depending how bad it is, you may not need all that.

as far as the rest of the cleaning and stock information, tyyrlym hit it just about perfect.

also, in regards to the cichlids. given the tankmates and tank size, its safe to assume theyre probably SA/CA cichlids. but try to get pictures of them, or at least names, so we can further help you with the stock.
