Are Gouramis or Angel fish predacious?

I have 2 of each plus 4 Rosy? tetras or is it Ruby? anyway I also have (had) neon tetras and Espei Rasboras but now I only have 1 neon and I don't see any carcasses. Are my little ones getting eaten? It's a 20 gal tank BTW, I'm not sure if I should go out and buy a bunch of little guys or not

Welcome to the forum.

Angels are natural predators of neons so that may be the culprit. How big are your angels? What type of gourami do you have?

150 Gallon - Mostly American Cichlids
135 Gallon - Angelfish Community
75 Gallon - Odd couple (Polleni/Angelfish)
55 Gallon - African tank
20 Gallon Long - QT
10 Gallon - Empty

Welcome!

I'm seeing a couple of issues here. Jeaninel is right that Angels are knowing for eating Neons and Gouramis will also sometimes help themselves depending on their temperment and the size difference between them and the other fish in question. Knowing what type of gouramis is going to be important.

What's also important is that I stress that a 20g is not an appropriate sized tank for angels and gouramis. IF you were to keep just two gouramis (and they were Dwarf Gourami) that would probably work. But any of the other larger gourami species or angels do not. Angels are shoaling fish that require a group of at least five (unless you have a mated pair) and you'll neeed at least a 55g tank for a group that size. The mated pairs need a 30g for just the two. Also to note, angels and gouramis are aggressive fish and keeping them in such tight quarters will only make this tendency worse. I'd be looking at finding a larger home for these guys, either by purchasing a larger tank or by rehoming them. It's for the best.

30g SE Asian Tank
15 Lambchop Rasbora
2 Gold White Cloud Minnows
3 Dwarf Chain Loaches
2 Powder Blue Dwarf Gourami

55g Amazon Tank
2 Wild Type Angels
1 Marble Angel
1 Black Angel
1 Koi Angel
2 Bolivian Rams
14 Pristella Tetra
10 Dwarf Pencilfish
2-3 Twig Catfish (to come)

OK so I looked them up and they are pearl gouramis, I'm relatively new to the aquarium thing and had to rely on the employees at the store, but they don't usually mix a lot of species in the same tank. So until I can get another tank going should I bother getting some buddies for the sole remaining neon? I would have thought that keeping them well fed might stop the predation, but apparently not

Nah. The predation is an instinct. As is the eating in general actually. In the wild they don't know when they're next meal would be so they're happy to gorge themselves.

Pearls get fairly large. If you want to keep the two gouramis, the two angels, and three new angels you're looking at a 75g tank probably, minimum. Other options include a couple of slightly smaller tanks (think 55g for the angels, and probably a 40 breeder for the gouramis). I'd avoid getting any more neons until you have a plan.

You can't really trust what employees say at pet stores. Especially chain stores like Petco and Petsmart. If you DO find an LFS that you think is trustworthy you can research some questions ahead of time and go "quiz" the employees. Let us know what you decide to do.
