It got mad hot today!

Hello all!
The summer isn't even here! and my water temperature has reached 80 deg already! How do you guys keep the water cool when you are not home? I don't have an ac at home, and I guess the temperatures this summer are going to be raging hot! I floated an ice bag in both my tanks today for a while to get the temperature down. But what to do when I am not home?
Any help will be great!

No kidding it was hot today. Summer is already slapping us in the face, and it's just the first day of spring. I've got a similar problem with my goldfish tank. I always keep the lids open in the summer and have a fan pointed over the tops of the tank. It lowers the temp a bit through evaporative cooling, but you usually have to top off the tank throughout the week.

Yeah I am worried about this summer, I don't have AC and sometimes it is in the upper 90s for a few days in a row.. I guess I am going to have to ice them..

I think coralife (ill have to check) makes a small HOB fan that blows across the surface of the water to cool the tank. Dunno how well they work, but they cant be but 20 bucks.

A computer fan or just any small DC powered fan you could get for a few $ and wire it to a converter. I know I have a few lying around that I have just scrapped from various dead electronics. Most my tanks are kept at 80 so it has to get quite hot to affect them. We have an AC but its just a small room unit that just manages to keep a 2 bedroom apartment bearable most of the summer. I let my tanks be until they get into the upper 80's, then I cut down on lights as my lights put off a good deal of heat. Sometimes I use cold soda cans or frozen water bottles if I need to lower temp. Usually I prefer just doing a cool water change right around the middle of the day if weather is really hot. Little things like leaving lids open can help as well.

.... I'm probably drunk.

This is how I lurk
