I have ordered fish online about 5 times now; bought on Aquabid and from that thatfishplace. Out of 50 to 60 fish that I have had shipped, I believe I have only had 3 arrive dead on arrival. Overnight runs $35 to $45 dollars on 6 to 12, two to three inch fish. The one time I had fish shipped ground, they arrived with tattered fins; I was able to have them regrow and they recovered; I think the shipper used too large of ammonium absorb blocks. I have been told that 2 day ground works well but I am hesitant to use it again. I personally am willing to spend a little more to give the a better chance to survive or arrive in better condition.

Shipping and online stores

Here is one question: what is the water used by shipping people, it is blue, keeps fish calm, and helps with the stress of being on the road? Local Petco (now don't hit me, just looking at fish when buying a filter) lady was telling me about the blue water -- says the fish take only 24 hours from CA to NH, are in good shape, and are ICH free. I wonder whether it is the Victoria Green/Acriflavine solution used to treat Ich? That is blue, too.

Thank you for the mention of online stores; down the road I will be looking for some additional males, if the babies don't grow some handsome male Mollies in a few months. Too soon to tell how many I will get from the ones I have now. Do these places also have Bettas, and is there a good sample of the fish available on the websites?

The blue water is most likely methylene blue. It is commonly used at fish auctions and shippers to prevent nitrite poisoning, fungus and ich.

You could also try a local fish club. I have plenty of fish from my local club in my tanks that I paid 5 to 10% of retail. I just bought 10+ Apistos for $20.

Couple of weeks ago I ordered ember tetras, shrimp, and plants. Today the arrived with nearly all the livestock DOA. I wrote the vendor. We'll see the response. I don't know what they can do because if they refund my money, they'll never see it again. Pretty sad seeing six tiny fish all piled up in the corner of the bag.

Weeks to deliver? I would not buy fish from someone if it is greater than 2 day shipping and would strongly suggest a company/person that is offering DOA replacement.

OMG .. Yeah. Nearly all reputable places sell the fish with live on arrival guarantee ! And that's often overnighted or 2nd day delivery at most . So I'd wonder about anyone who allowed more then 3-4day deliveries (yet id never take livestock past 2nd day delivery ) .

Who did you order from ? Just so others can be careful ..

No, I ordered two weeks ago but the order wasn't shipped until Tues. From San Diego to Las Vegas? It isn't that far. I didn't see the carcasses of two shrimp and the fish were barely more than fry. sigh

I'm not going to out the business until there is a resolution. Of course, replacement is the best course of action. I said that even if they refunded my money, I would not order from them again.

No reply from the vendor about my DOA fish. I sent a second message this morning. I won't out them until I'm sure they have no intention of backing their guarantee. I won't order from them again, and would never recommend them, but now I'm wondering about ordering livestock online. I think I'll stick to hardware.

How much did you pay for these DOA fish & shrimp?

Was it the usual $30+ to ship overnight, or was it a lot less? I am looking at the different ones, and it is usually over $30 for shipping & handling. Please let us know if you ever heard back from them...
