Giant Danios...

Tank has finally cycled and wanted to get some platies, mollies and guppies to go along with giant and zebra danios. Will the giant danios give them problems? I've heard different opinions good and bad from people, just trying to see if anyone on this board can give some advice. My giants that I've had tend not to get along with each other. Started with 6 and there was always a bully in the group. I'm down to 2 and 1 is a bully towards the other. Quite suprised the bullied danio has not died of stress. I know the more the better of them but the bully seems as if he would be quite fine and happy by himself. Just worried he might try and push any new fish I introduce to tank

Tank size? Stats (amonnia nitrite nitrate pH hardness etc)? I have a tank with 6 danios and they all get along together. Poor water quality and cramped conditions can cause stress and aggressiveness in usually passive fish. How large is your tank?

The size is spot on and your stats look good, PH is a little high though. They function great in anything 6 to 8 (slightly acidic to slightly basic) but you're definitely pushing high PH which may be an issue. Do you have any natural plants or decor in your aquarium? Bullied fish like to hide until hey can reenter the shoal. And keep in mind that Danios are a schooling fish, a minimum of six to eight at any given time should be considered to keep them united - if not more. Because you only have three at once, that could be causing additional aggression. You can read more on the fish profiles page of the site which I will link below. I think your major issue with bullying is definitely related to shoal size, you need more Danios.

I originally had 6 and there was a bully from the minute they went into tank, running 2 fluval c4 power filters at low flow rate, plenty of artificial plants and 2 airstones
