Question Fungus/mold?! can anyone confirm?

So i have something other than plants growing in my tank. I checked a couple of thread about fungus and it might be this. The first time i saw the substance it was that translucent muck/jelly that everyone has described. Now I see it as a hair-like white tipped mold. Either I have two different things here or its changing on me. I saw that people noticed this with driftwood (which i have) and with new/cycling tanks (also me). I am trying to upload a picture that shows roughly what it looks like. But I saw someone suggest apple snails (Pomacea) to eat the microbiological life. I think I will buy a couple if others agree. Or are there other ways to combat this mold and/or fungus?

Thanks guys! I have no fish in here yet.

Is it growing/coming out of the driftwood itself? If so, that's pretty common. I believe Byron had an issue with it once where it might have caused some fish deaths, but I've had it myself several times and have seen other people with it, too and in these cases there were no deaths or illnesses associated with it. It usually goes away on its own but can also be sucked off with a gravel vac or the piece of wood can be pulled out and scrubbed clean in the sink.
