Forgot to add dechlorinator, will fish be okay?

I have two questions/problems that I have. I did a 30% water change this afternoon. I forgot to add my API Stres Coat+ at the time of the water change. I had one goldfish dead later this afternoon. Is it this mistake that probably caused the death? I feel horrible about it. I have since added the API Stress Coat+ when I realized I forgot to add it (about 5 hours later). Is there anything else I can do to help the rest of the fish?

Also, is it okay to add the tap water directly to the tank while adding the water conditioner at the beginng and part way through? I have been mixing them in a dedicated 2.5 gallon bucket before putting the water in the tank. It would be easier if I added them separately. Also, I double check the water temperature using a digital thermometer before adding it to the tank (stay within half a degree).

Soooo what are the water parameters currently? I prefer to just mix dechlorinator in the bucket of new water as a precaution but you can add the dechlorinator straight to the tank before or immediately after adding the new water as the process is instantaneous.

I'd rather have Prime than API stresscoat. I hate aloe vera-based products. Your fish don't need that. They need to breathe. Stresscoat stuff just doubles the production of slime coating and excess slime coat may trap itself in the gills suffocating the fish.
