Fluval EBI shrimp tank

So with the holiday season coming up I was able to convince my parents to get a small freshwater desktop aquarium for my room. I'm looking for something relatively low maintenance so I figure the best way to go is a heavily planted shrimp tank. Does anyone have any experience with this fluval kit?

My daughter has had one of these in her bedroom for a couple of years now, excellent for shrimp or smaller crayfish, Betta's love these. The internal filter is a bit fiddly and messy to clean, but this is the only drawback I could find with it.
