Hi all, I had started fishless cycling in my 29 g tank on last monday......i mistakenly put more ammonia ( instead of recommended 5 ppm, it was more than 8 ppm ).... i haven't added any ammonia after that.....now it's almost a week and my ammonia reading doesn't want to come down at all....it still shows more than 8 ppm and there is no/very little trace of nitrite..... what should i do now?? any help will be greatly appreciated....btw, i couldn't get media from any established tank...does adding bio-spira help in anyways....
thanks
bikas
If you have access to another established aquarium.....take the sponge filter out of it and squeeze it into a baggie....open the baggie in your aquarium next to your pump inlet....bacteria will help.
The only time I have heard biospira help is if if it is very fresh and has been kept refrigerated. Give the tank a little more time and make sure you are using dechlorinator. Your LFS should be willing to give you a very small amount of gravel from an established tank which should also help.
