Did a fishless cycle on my 55g tank using liquid ammonia. First time doing this and wow was it quick. Checked water parameters daily, sometimes twice a day and it only took 9 days to complete the cycle process. I have since added plants and a few fish. Nitrate levels so far are staying around 6ppm. I am using Marineland's Penguin Bio-wheel filters. They seem to do a great job. I really like the design of them. I now have a 28g tank I am starting and will do the liquid ammonia cycle process on it also. I highly recommend this as it really speeds things up. Here is a photo of the 55g tank with a few plants and fish in it. I will be adding more and will update pictures as things change.
if you have existing tanks you could always "seed" the new tank with media, water, decorations or something else from the established tank also............
I helped my mother-in-law with the cycling process, too. We just seeded her tank with old filter cartridges from my established tank, and voila! She never got a single ammonia spike and the baby fish are happy as can be.
