This fishkeeping seem's a bit like FOOTBALL

Instead of just rushing in to it ive tried to get as much info as poss.
But OMG every shop bloke tells a different story about how to look after stuff ive got some books and again they are all different in what they said.
I got THE TROPIACL AQUARIUM MINIENCYCLOPEDIA BY Gina Sandford
In it it says you should not put Mollys in untill the tank as been established for 6 months
OMG i been to by about 7 shops all saying there fine to put in from the start.
Plus when setting the tank up i run it for 7 days but i never got told to feed the tank with no fish in it and ive now been told thats what i should of done.

It does seem to be a massive problem and it would be great if there was a law in selling stuff to the public with the wrong info.

I teach drummer and one of the parents says they had just got a tank with a shark in it i ask how it was doing and she said fine. The week later she came again for her lads drum lesson and said look to the lad he as a temperature gauge. She never had one just put the shark in the tank now i don't blame her i blame the shop that sold it to her and today i am going down to see what happing.
Rant over sorry i love this site ive learnt loads must of read every post LOL

Welcome!

And yes, you'll get different advice everywhere, even here ;)

Pet stores, of course, have a conflict of interest. They exist to make money, so they want you to buy stuff. Technicaly you can buy fish on day one, but it's very detremental to their long term health, and quite often they don't make it through the cycling process unless strict care is taken. Stores that sell nothing but fish can sometimes be better than general pet stores that just have a few tanks in the back.

The best way to cycle is without fish, a few methods are outlines in this sticky at the top of the this forum including the feeding the tank without fish method, here is the link http://www.tropicalfishkeeping.com/f...m-cycle-38617/
