I began seeing a fry or two swimming around just above the substrate. These are 3rd generation Sunset Mickey Mouse Platys.
I had decided (I thought) to let nature takes it's course. With so many distant relatives on the prowl I thought it would be over quickly.
I soon learned that somewhat unlike others before them, these little guys were very crafty prey and with stealthy precision and some evasive darts and dashes, captures were avoided.
One or two turned into 3 or 4 or more and after a couple of days I caved and went down in the dungeon and retrieved the breeder net so I could feed them properly and protect them until they are large enough to no longer be snack food.
With scuba gear (T-shirt and towel) I dove in and one by one I netted the little guys and deposited them in the breeder net now attached to the front left side.
When the rescue was over, there were 7 youngsters in the breeder net that soon had a meal and later some baby brine shrimp.
