Fish for my 55 Gallon Tank

I bought a used 55 gallon tank. After the cycle I am going to add my fish. I like fish that school together. Do you guys and gals have any suggestions. I would like to have some live plants. Any thoughts about what type of fish and how many would be very helpful.

Thanks
Jerry

a school of mexican blind cave tetras would be pretty cool...

if your more into the whole "planted community" thing that you could do congo tetras, bleeding hearts, tiger barbs etc.

Tiger barbs are one of my favorites.
They show alot of personality in groups. A group of 9 or 10 would do great in a 55 and still leave room for some other fish.
Maybe some cory for the bottom, lots of different cool ones to pick from. These also do best in grouds of three or more. 6 would be a good # in your tank.

Im leaning toward the tiger barbs. I also like the panda cory's. This tank is for community fish. I Have another 55 gallon tank that I need to build or buy a stand for. I will need to make more choices when I talk the wife into letting me bring it into the house. Small steps so I dont get her to mad at me !!!

Thanks,
Jerry

I've recently become addicted to the way glass catfish look and school. A school of 8 or 9 of these guys looks incredible. That would be my personal choice, and then get some schoolers around those guys, tiger barbs are great, maybe mix them up with albino green and regular tigers. Let us know what you decide!

Schooling fish in a 55 gallon iis great! I have like 10 Glo-Lite Tetra and like 8 Head & Tail Light Tetra and its great to watch them all swim together! But find yourself some bigger staple fish that will go well with your school too! I personally like the Bosmoni Rainbows, the males have fabulous color or some Groumi's my blue has a personality like no other! Just remember that if you go with the Tigers you'll have to find fish that will fit around them because they can be a bit aggressiive......
4-6 Corey's is perfect, I have 4 all stay by each other and eat together
I also had 2 Clown Loaches but they tend to get a little bigger down the road (but they are great workers and very colorful)
Have fun with it and do some planning!

Great suggestions....

How about some awesome looking darters and rainbow shiners. (both native to the US.)
Darters are very personable fish that sort of surprisingly popout of "nowhere" at the oddest times, very amusing to watch in an aquarium.

check them out here.
