Fish i.d. I believe some type of sunfish

Hey all, great forum here!

I was kind of unsure where to post a fish I.D. so if this is the wrong place, sorry.

I need a little help identifying this fish, i believe it is a sunfish, but I am unsure as to what type. It was caught in Southeast Louisiana. I got him in a 20 gallon grow out tank right now, as he is about 1.5 inches long. He is terrorizing my wild sailfin mollies.

Not sure why my water looks so disgusting in the pics, damn camera on my phone.

Thanks
-Chris

Welcome to the forum!

Definitely looks like some sort of sunfish to me, too. Which kind? Who knows. It's much to small to tell just yet. If I had to place a bet, though, I'd bet it's a baby bluegill. It will likely kill your mollies as it gets older.

Yeah i was thinking bluegill or green sunfish, thanks for the help! He will be going into a huge pond eventually with other random sunfish and crappie

Its hard to tell from the picture, but if you check the shape of the pectoral fins that should help you narrow it down. Green sunfish pectoral fins are shorter and wider when compared to bluegills. Bluegill pectoral fins are about twice as long as they are wide, and pointed at the end.
