Fish Feeding ?

55 Gallon tank, has head and tail light tetra, glow lite tetra, black tetra, white skirt tetra, blood fin tetra, cherry barbs, 2 cats and pleco....

All of above mentioned are growing well, my black and white tetra and glow lite and head and tail light are bout 1 1/2 in, blood fins are about 2 in

I feed them flake food and if I drop a "large" piece in there BAM one of the bigger fish gulp it up, while I still need some smaller pieces for other fish. Some of bigger fish will kill a fly in there that I put in 1/3 pieces

Is it time to feed my fish something a little bigger than flake food? If so any ideas?

Flake food is a well balanced diet for your fish. I have angels in my tank and they are very greedy eaters. My glolights always seem to get enough of the smaller pieces that float down. Are you feeding one flake at a time?If you are. I will put more then that in when I feed that way everyone has a chance at the food.Flys are ok occasionally, but make sure you use it only as a treat, and not a steady diet. I am sure others in here will be able to give you some excellant advice

Oh no I give my fish a "pinch" of food at feeding time, I just have been adding some bigger flakes for the bigger fish to eat. Just seems that all the fish can eat what I am feeding them in about 30 seconds but dont want to overfeed

My fish get flies MAYBE twice a month

-freezedried bloodworms (bloodfins seem to gulp these up)
-freezedried tubeworms or tubeifex or something like that
-frozen bloodworms or brine shrimp (thawed in a shot glass of tank water before serving)
-live worms or brineshrimp

theres a million types of fish foods now a days, types, brands, prices
check out your LFS and see what they have to offer, because you'd be fine just feeding color-enhancing flakes

I feed a mix of flake and NLS pellets to my fish along with some sinking wafers for the pleco and cories. About twice a week they get frozen bloodworms or frozen brine shrimp. Also, my pleco loves fresh zucchini. And occasionally the other fish get shelled peas or cooked carrots. As mentioned above there are lots of options at the LFS.

150 Gallon - Mostly American Cichlids
135 Gallon - Angelfish Community
75 Gallon - Odd couple (Polleni/Angelfish)
55 Gallon - African tank
20 Gallon Long - QT
10 Gallon - Empty
