Fish for beginner/intermediate in 55 gal. tank?
So, I have kept freshwater fish for a while, mostly small, easy-to-keep fish, but every once in a while, I had a few intermediate-type fish (I can't remember exactly what they were, it's been so long). I had a 55-gallon tank that was stocked with a peaceful community, but after I went to college, my mom started feeding them only every-other-day at best (and when she did, she put in way too much food) and rarely cleaned the tank. So, recently the last of them died, and I'm looking to start a new tank (hopefully I can teach her how to do it better).
I'm looking for some fish that will do well together in a 55 gallon tank. They should be mostly peaceful, and on the small side (my mom can't handle "big" fish when they die). Also, it would be great if they are easy to care for, but also interesting enough for me when I get home. "Pretty" ones are preferable. Oh, and dwarf African frogs are a must, since that's the only part of the tank my mom even liked.
