first water change

i have a 5 gallon guppy yank that has been running for around 4 days now.
the water level is dropping pretty fast, and i wanted to add some water to fill up the tank.
id say the tank is 75% full of water.

what are the steps to adding new water to the tank?
How do I prepare the water before I put it in?

fill a container with water
you can bring it up to temperature with boiled water
add your de-chlorinater
and then add the water slowly until the tank is full again,
you can reduce the amount of evaperation by having
the tank covered.
