First tropical tank

Hey Iv finaly got my first tropical tank its a 40 gallon I have the heater on 26 c rite now. A few quistions.

1. With my heater will it keep the water at the temp I set it at its elf or do I need to turn the heater on and off when needed or not needed?

2.Do I need a thomometer ?

3.What are the best fish for me as a new keeper of tropical fish. (I Have fantailas an dhave for 6 months in a 40 gallon tank. But this is my first tropical.

Thanks for your help

0) Please search this forum for "cycling".

1) Your heater should have a thermostat which will keep the water at a temperature near the one which you specify.

2) Yes.
Heaters and thermostats are not universally reliable.
A thermometer will allow you to verify the temperature of the water in your tank.

3) You have many choices!
My hardiest fish are
a) Corydoras Sterbai
b) Platties
c) Neon and Glowlight Tetras
d) Angelfish

I have black neon tetras and black skirt tetras, they are very hardy. Plus your black skirt might shed its stripes and color like mine did, lol. Now its white, very pretty.
