Fin split

Hi, I have 6 black ruby barbs 4 males 2 females, they are all acting normally , meaning the 4 males fight together very often(gentle playing no nipping) spinning around together. Ammonia and nitrite are 0 and nitrate is about 15 ppm. So to finally get to the question I have 2 of the barbs that have splits in there top fins , they seem to be healing but then a day after there are new ones appearing anyone got any clues?

I have very often observed this in several shoaling fish. I've never seen any physical interaction that might cause this, but it could occur when I'm not looking. Or the fin may split for some quite unrelated reason. In 20 years this has never led to any fungus, illness, or death, so I don't worry. But just wanted you to know that it is common, whatever the reason.

Finrot would appear more as whitish patches along the outer border. If you see white blobs or patches at the split, that is likely fungus and should be dealt with. If a fin for instance is nipped by another fish, fungus can (but not always) occur. But just split fins, not a problem.
