Filtration HELP

I am thinking about upgrading my filtration. I do not have what you would call awsome filters. I have the following for my tank:

1.) Topfin 30 filter
2.) 20 gallon secondnature wisper filter

" I doubt this is a good setup for my 40 gallon tank " can someone give me some good advice on what to get? Should i be using bio filters?

Try a canister filter! I suggest an eheim 2213. Very basic, cheap (only $60), easy to maintain and it does wonders on filtration. If you can afford a bigger one go bigger but the 2213 should get the job done. And you could always run the power filter for supplemental filtration.

I like AquaClear and would get the AC50 for a 40 gallon. Canisters are even better but I do not have any experience with them. Filter media is really by choice. Bio balls, Bio Chem Stars, sponges, filter floss and whatever will fit if you find you like it.

if you go with a canister filter then go with Fluval, Rena or eheim. I've used Rena and Fluval and prefer Rena out of the two. Eheim I havn't used but have heard mixed reviews on both. I'm sure you'd be happy with any of thm though.

if you go with a hang-on-back power filter then you cant go wrong with penguin or emporer. They both use the biowheels which is really the best on the market. If you go with that, get the dual biowheel versions...the penguin dual biowheel will filter up to 75 gallons and the emperor will do 80.
