Lightbulb Filters and cycling

Probably another silly thought of mine.

After Xmas I'm starting my new tank cycling, don't ask Xmas tree take preference by my wife.

I was wondering if I was to have a clip on filter attached to my present small tank running alongside the normal filter, and when it came time to start the cycling of my next tank, if I used the clip on filter would it help with the start up cycle as it will have already gained bacteria from my small tank.

I was thinking of an a600 aquaclear 30.

Hope that made sense.

Also I intend to transfer the fish from my small tank into the bigger tank once cycled.

While I'm on this subject what does HOB stand for.

HOB - Hang on Back, aka power filter.

You can certainly add some media to your current tank in preparation of the new larger tank. You aren't exactly going to get any more bacteria, but what you will do is spread it out thinner. When you move everything over to the new tank, the bacteria will be primed for growth.

With the same idea in mind, when I do a water change on my smaller tank, if I run it through a piece of filter foam to take out any lumps would it be worth using the water to stimulate the cycle?

Water from a cycled tank won't help.your new tank cycle faster. Using the filter you put in your current tank will help it cycle a bit.
