Filter Question

I have a 29g tank and I am getting a 75g tank in a bit from my grandparents. The tank doesnt have a cover or filter but i will be buying one in a week or two. Am i able to use the 29g filter to get the cycling process started without having alot of problems or should i just wait til i purchase the the larger filter?

If you have fish in the tank, then you can use some the media but not the whole filter.

Are you keeping the 29g tank as well once you get the 75g tank? or will you be using the filter on it for the 75g in addition to purchasing a new one?

10g Fry / Hospital / QT tank (as needed)

75g Saltwater Reef, Ocellaris Clownfish, Lyretail Antias (baby), Lemon damsel, Longtail Fairy Wrasse, purple dottyback, snails, crabs and a few LPS corals.

220g Still sitting empty (come on Lottery I need the numbers to come up!)

Actually when i got the tank i realized there was a miscommunication. The tank in question is a 45gallon tank not 75. The 29 gallon tank was going to be given to my sister with the filter once i purchased a suitable filter for the tank for she has a turtle and an apple snail.
