well first off what kinda filter is it? When did you last clean it? does the impeller motor vibrate when you plug it in?

First thing to check is the impeller in the motor - it's probably just gunked up. Post the type of filter you have or find the manual on it and see where it is on your filter. Pull it apart and clean it with a q-tip (no soap obviously).

When you put it back together, plug the filter in for just a second to see if the motor starts then you should be good to go with putting the rest of the filter back together and repriming it in the tank.

Good luck.
