Filter died, only have 10 gallon filter for 125 gallon tank

I have an eheim 2260 that during my last media change, started leaking terribly. I hear great things about eheim but to be honest this one is really ticking me off. I'm debating on throwing it away. The knobs that clamp down the top are almost all worthless so I went to home depot and bought 8 clamps to replace them. Then once I got those on there it's still leaking water so now I ordered a new O-ring for it even though the O-ring didn't look damaged. I didn't know what else to do. The O-ring is in the mail now and won't be here for 3-5 days.

Until then I have a 125 gallon tank and only a little 10 gallon filter from walmart on it. Should I do daily water changes until the O-ring gets here and I get my eheim back up again? I figured the small filter was better than nothing. I also have a couple airstones in there so theres plenty of oxygen. Will my fish be ok or am I setting them up to die? My tank has 2 oscars, 2 convicts, a pleco, crawfish, and 1 foot channel catfish.

Any insight on eheim tanks leaking or the under-filtration on my tank would be appreciated.

If it were me, i'd do the small daily water changes and daily water testing to see where you're at until you can get the filter up and running again. I'd also cut back on feeding.

You might want to check out Craigslist or e-bay for a used Eheim that's the same model as yours for parts.

Good luck in the meantime.
