I dont keep platies but it would go for any and all fish ever that i get.
All fish can go around 7-10 days without food so 1 day isn't going to do any harm to them.
I, and plenty others, have 1 day a week where the fish don't get fed. Sunday is a sad day for my fish

TBH i always find the light part MUCH harder to do than not feeding them! It lets them settle yes, but by god its hard! I just got a new fish and i cant even see it!?!

TetraMin tropical flakes I grabbed a tiny pinch and broke them up abit more. They all seem to be sinking so should I leave them to scavenge what's in the bottom and not worry about it? They're brand new and still getting used to their new accommodation. One tetra seems to be grabbing a piece then spitting it out.

I would say if they spitting it its too large. My tetras do the same with any larger pieces that the gouramis dont get to straight away.....whereas all the tiny bits they chow straight down.
Worth at least crushing the flakes into tiny pieces and seeing if they'll take them then.

Here is what you need to do hun. Turn off the filter so that the food can have a longer float time and wont get suckedd up. Put a couple flakes in your hand and crumble them up well to where they are tiny. Then, pinch the flakes between your fingers and drop then below the water line. Tetra are mid-water swimmers/eaters and will be more likely to go after the food if it's on their level and a more suitable size. Don't turn the filter back on until all the flake bits have all sunk to the bottom. It worked perfectly on my little ones
