Exchanging gravel

I want to change my tank from its current colour of gravel to that of black.

I have worked hard on all water levels and I will filter out all MT snails. Am I missing anything massive when it comes to changing the gravel over an hour or is it ok to do so..?

Keep the filter running and don't clean it to preserve bacteria. Also, any decor that is staying in the tank after the new substrate should be kept wet in a pail of tank water to preserve the bacteria. If you had live plants, even just floating ones, you would have no issues at all.

Are you going to move the fish to a temporary tank, or leave them in when you remove the existing gravel and put in the new?

And, welcome to Tropical Fish Keeping forum.

The aquarist is one who must learn the ways of the biologist, the chemist, and the veterinarian. [unknown source]

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business. If you’re going to take it under your wing then you’re responsible for it. Every aspect of its life is under your control, from water quality and temperature to swimming space. [Nathan Hill in PFK]
