Eheim has the track record of reliability that the other brands do not have simply because they have not been on the market as long. But many feel that Fluval will never outlast or outperform an Eheim, all else being equal.

When I was in the market for a canister two years ago for my 115g, I read every review and report I could get online, and the rating was Eheim 1, Rena 2, Fluval 3 [I didn't include other makes because it was one of these three I wanted].

My two Eheim canisters have been running without issues for more than 14 years now, non-stop. Eheim is more expensive, but long-term it may be no more so, or perhaps even less so.

As you have Eheim, you're not going to better them.

You're welcome.

One thing I didn't mention, is that you can use less expensive media in the Eheim. Here I use Fluval media. The ceramic disks that are the first stage in Fluval, Rena or Eheim canisters are the same no matter who makes them, but Fluval is about one-third the cost. And I also use their BioMax for the second stage in my Eheims and Rena, it is about half the cost. The pads should be Eheim as they will fit, and you can buy new pads.
