I was searching on line for Fish and I came across a retailer selling Dwarf African Frogs.... According tot he site these frogs only get to about 1 in full grown and spend most of their time underwater...
They are really Cute, but are they really appropriate for a big community tank?
I plan on a peacefull community aquarium, but some of the other fish in the aquarium will get up to 3 in...
Wonder if they would eat my frog? Anyone ever keep these tiny frogs?
I have two currently, they are great for aquariums. Also fairly common at stores. What kind of fish do you have that get up to 3"? Tank size also matters the frogs need to reach the surface for air, so the tank can't be too high.
Feeding these guys is the hardest part. They need there food to move. The will eat a frozen bloodworm if you wiggle it in front of them, but they will ignore any that are just lying on the ground. The best way to feed them is by using a small pipet.
thanks for your reply. I think i might get them depending... I've been to a few LFS in this area and not much to choose from, just tetras, and goldfish.
I'm thinking about getting some Raibow fish, apparently they get between 1-3 inches...I'm planning a 55 gallon tank, so a couple of biggish fish will be fun. (not aggressive ones...that is.)
I just got two dwarf frogs today, and they're great. I have them in a tank with a Betta, and he doesn't mind their company at all. I've read that they're nocturnal, but these two have been very active all day. I'm sure they're just getting used to their new environment.
Be careful not to get the african clawed frogs instead because they look similar when they're small but get bigger and can be rather aggressive.
I have 3. They realy get to 2 to 3 inch. I like them to. They like to hide under stuff. They can get out of ur tank where theres holes. They do eat there skin to as they shed. I would recomend them. and fish i have tetras, clown, loaches, mollies. Good luck. If ur getting a new tank be sure to cycle ur tank for a month or to before geting a lot of fish. Mollies will work to help cycle ur tank being they will with stand a lot.
I wouldn't suggest them in a 55gal tank, because of how tall those are. Its a long distance for a little frog to swim just to get some air. Also be careful with the rainbows, they are worderful fish. One of my favs, but they test everything to see if they can eat it. Mine would eat the most disgusting things. I kept boeseamis. However the smaller harder to find rainbows are great. I have some gurtredae and threadfins in the same tank as my two frogs.
These frogs also do great in setups similar to bettas.

Given the swimming requirement to get air, I think I will build up one part of the tank with some rock and driftwood. But frankly the 55 gallon tank I have isnt any taller than the normal 20 gallon....its just rather long.
this is actually exactly what I want for my tank
Bosemi rainbows 6x
Pearl Danios 8
Badis 2
American Flag Fish 2-4 paired IF I can find them (Frustrating, I LIVE in Florida, why can't I find these algae machines.)maybe if I take a bucket to a retention pond....
and then maybe 2 frogs... Or maybe not...
I had kind of wanted some Denison Barbs, but I think the tank would be reaching its limit...depending on how big some of the fish actually get.
Its going to be low light planted. We are movign next week (eek no fun) so after we get everything in place and cycle the tank, I will start looking for fish..
I'm not a big fan of Mollies, sad to say... but I think I'll start the tank with the danios, and go from there.
i have mine in a 55 they will do fine. iv had no problems. just dont get the realy small ones.
