Post driftwood growing fur

I've been cycling a 55g tank for about 3 weeks now with my decor in it, last Thursday i added some Stress Zyme to it, with live bacteria, to help speed up cycling, and this past weekend i've noticed something looking like fur growing on the driftwood, not sure as to what it is, i was wondering if anyone could tell me and what i may need to do to get rid of it........Thanks

I have had this happen to several pieces of wood that were too large to boil. Boiling the piece for up to an hour will take care of it. Be sure not to leave it unattended while it's boiling. I believe it's some sort of fungi. I actually let one very large piece of wood that had this growth go in the aquarium for it wasn't affecting the water parameters and as mentioned,, it was too large to boil. Nearly every snail in the tank swarmed it . I then grabbed it out of the tank, knocked off all the snails ,,and stuck it back in. The growth went away after approx. three weeks.

The most important medication in your fish medicine cabinet is.. Clean water.

I boiled all my wood before putting it in my tank and it still grew that same fuzz as yours. After a few weeks it went away on its own accord. I think that's the same thing that will happen with yours.

You might not want to scrub it since your tank is still cycling, but when it happened in mine I took it out, gave it a bit of a scrub in warm water and put it back in. The fungus never reappeared after that. I wouldn't worry about it too much though - like the others said, it doesn't seem to do any harm and should clear up in its own time.

is it like a whitish translucent foam? I had that too with my driftwood. My cats and algae eaters loved it.
