Do you need to add gravel to a tank?

I have a 30 gallon freshwater tank I have fake plants a sunken ship and a couple of rocks but no gravel. now my question is the gravel really necessary?

Nope. You dont have to have anything on the bottom. It's actually a little easier to clean if you dont have gravel, but you might have to clean it more often to keep it looking its best. If you just dont like the look of gravel you could put sand, just a few large rocks or the larger smooth pebbles.

I have had a few tanks with nothing on the bottom except a few holey rocks for the fish to hide in.
