My bettas have names. It's not hard to keep track of them - they are all different and each is in a separate tank. All of my apple snails are called Gary. A new member said in a thread that he had some that his kids called Gary and I thought it was a good idea and name so mine all became Gary as well...

My last guppy was called Guppy (unfortunately, he died recently). I call my bristlenose Bristly. I might give him a proper name if I can think of one that suits.

Goodness no, I'd spend too much time trying to remember them all! I usually just refer to them by species, or by their color name. My discus are the pigeonblood, the cobalt, etc. The three whose colors haven't developed yet are the big one, the medium one, and the small one. And the blue diamond that lives alone because he's an antisocial jerk and hates other discus has a name that is not appropriate to be posted on this forum or mentioned in mixed company.

My son named 2 fish of ours. Both died . They were both named blue...lol. They were both powder blue dwarf gouramis. Purchased at seperate times, in seperate setups....i guess we just aren't meant to have one in our setup. We do call the school of rasbora espei "el trece" since there are 13 of them.

I name some of my fish if there is something unique that makes it ppossible for me to tell them apart. You may remember from a few sentences ago that i also have a guppy named Susan. Well, when i have more than one of the same sort of fish, and find one of them to be dreadfully plain, i name it susan because there's just something about saying "ugh, that's susan... Isn't she just so plain?" that makes me feel good about myself. Keeping in mind that when verbally abusing susan, i always do it with a certain amount of disdain in my voice. Poor susan. But it's not my fault susan's so plain.

WOW LMAO!! You made me laugh so hard and I haven't even been out of bed for 10 minues. Thanks!!
I find it hilarious that you hold no responsibility for how plain Susan is, maybe Susan believes she also has no responsibility in it. It's NOBODY'S fault that solves THAT! And I lied when I said we only named one fish. My son reminded me we named a blue gourami Grandpa because of his long, grandpa like "whiskers" Nothing like a 12 year old to remind you how fragile your memory is hahaha!

Hopefully by naming a school rather than an individual you will have years of successes and healthy fish Good luck!

I have names for my fish, but at the moment I don't have very many. I have three mollies and three platies in one tank and they're different types I guess you could say. One's a blue mickey mouse (Daisy), one's a silver lyretail (Clem), stuff like that. I also have a betta (Norman) and a zebra nerite snail (Sheldon) in a ten gallon so remembering their names is easy. I'm planning on getting a school of cherry barbs to add to the 45 gallon and they most likely won't be getting individual names and I'll probably refer to them with something generic like Bob or George.
