Digital thermometer

Tbh just because I don't like having one on the front of my glass and because I unfortunately have to sit it in an alcove and only get minimal side view as it is I'd prefer to have a nice digi sat on the tank that requires no effort to look at etc and I can properly monitor.

So, are there any 'must buys' or any 'definitely stay away' froms out there?

And secondly where would be the ideal location to sit the probe?

Here is what I am going to use. It runs on 12VDC so either a transformer or 12VDC power supply is needed.

Audible output, relay output, digital display, adjustable display temperature to match actual temp.

In my case I am just going to connect it to my alarm in order to monitor it on my phone. I might look for a ZWave product to do the same but haven't taken the time to look for anything yet.

I'm considering a Via aqua titanium unit for a heater that has a probe outside of the element housing. I figure the price of the unit is about the same as buying a typical heater and separate probe. I was going to look at the Fluval E but haven't heard as much good as bad news about it. I suspect that one of the issues with the sensitive display has to do with the sensor being in the housing with the heater element.

Total years fish keeping experience: 7 months, can't start counting in years for a while yet.

The shotgun approach to a planted tank with an LED fixture

Small scale nitrogen cycle with a jar, water and fish food; no substrate, filter etc

Now I'm no shirk when I comes to spending freely on the tanks but I reckon that way over priced for what I want. Haha. and probably over technical too. God knows it would be nice but I'd need to have a fish room and have that crazy thing hooked up everywhere to warrant it I reckon.

I had to force myself to spend the extra $3 for a second thermometer for the 220.
