Dead Fish, Live and Learn

Just had to put down one of my Gourami. He'd been bloated and mostly hanging out in a corner for the better part of a week. I'd been hoping he was just feeling bad, did a water change and crossed my fingers he'd shake it off. Eventually he started listing to one side. I don't want him dead in the tank, or to suffer. So there you go.

I lost another of the three a few weeks ago, so especially for the health of the last one (who seems normal still) this seems the right thing to do. It's always harder when individual fish die rather than one of out a school you can't distinguish between.

I am sorry to hear about your loss. I too lost a fish recently and it just stinks. Admittedly, I am not as close to my fish as say, my dogs but... I hate losing them. You are right, the single ones are worse then one in a group. Gourami seems to have such nice personalities as well. I find myself favoring my Opaline Gourami. I think you did the right thing though.

I can't stand to see animals suffer. I believe it is better to help one pass peacefully and quickly then to allow them to suffer and risk the whole tank dying. Again, sorry for your loss.
