I would think you could just let the filter run while you are away. at the WORST case, the cycle will finish a little early, and you will have to kick start it for a couple days when you get home for it to stabilize, similar to adding new fish to an established tank... while the bacteria levels adjust to the increased bio load.

Dedicated, converted, lowes / home depot bulb buyer!
