Your catfish does look like a Synodontis nigriventris. No other catfish that size would be sold as upside down catfish. But your tank can house snails, shrimps and some celestial pearl danios if you really want a total makeover. What substrate is that? I have a feeling it's one of the kind that is composed mainly of calcium carbonate which can increase your pH and KH. This is good for snails, mollies and many others in the long run but the high KH may not be favorable for some species.

Do you plan to get a larger tank at all? If so, when will that be possible? Have you started searching in Craiglist yet? This cannot wait as you risk your fish getting stunted or worse possibly injuring each other especially as you have a rainbow shark whose belligerence should not be underestimated.

I'm not sure what you mean by the question "What substrate is that?"

I do plan on getting a larger tank, but not for a couple of months. I've been looking on craigslist and there are ALOT of killer deals.

We're trying to get an apartment so, the bigger tank will come with that.

So far there has been no problems. The most aggressive one in the tank is probably the damn molly. She'll swim around all day an as soon as you drop the least little bit of food in shes all over it.

The two other fish stay mainly on the bottom picking up scraps she doesn't eat

I meant what brand or type it is. It looks a lot like crushed corals.
