NH3 + H20 <---> NH4+ + OH-

Notice the arrow goes both ways. It means that the rxn can go both ways, and you will generally have some NH3 and some NH4+ in solution depending on pH and temperature.

OH- In solution, exposed to air, the hydroxide ion reacts rapidly with atmospheric carbon dioxide, acting as an acid, to form, initially, the bicarbonate ion.
OH− + CO2 is in equilibrium with HCO3−

Hello:
itís nice to hear your voice Rickey. I just want to say that all of those capital letters and numbers with arrows and plus and minus signs just confuse me. I like words better. I think we have reached a state of consensus about ammonia and the different states it can exist in as well as a number of suggestions on fishless cycling that I find helpful. I have been playing with the chart Hallyx posted itís great.
