Custom 55gallon tank

I just saw the thread below right as i was looking around on the internet for custom tanks. Anyways i am going to keep a mbuna cichlid tank. I want to get a bigger tank but one i am afraid it might be too much work and two my mom wont let me a tank bigger than 55gallons although i might be able to persuade her into 75gallons. Anyways for a 55g the standard dimensions are 4' by 1' by 18". Some people say that a 55g tank would work and others say that i need a 75g for the 18" deep. I want to get a tank that is around 55-60gallons and is 48" wide and 18" deep. A glass aquarium is fine with me. Does anybody know how much this will cost approximately and a good place to go to.

People will suggest you try craiglist and eBay. Where are you located?

I don't live in US though I know people often suggest looking into craiglist if you are looking for aquaria.

Just depends on who is selling what...that's the best part of craigslist - waiting (or trying to) patiently for that perfect deal. And as I always recommend - jump on it FAST! You can be sure a few other people (at least) have contacted the seller. Offer to purchase at the stated price (puts you ahead of the hagglers) and pick up on their schedule.

I recently got a GREAT 55g and stand - along w/5 spotted leapard discus VERY cheap, but I waited over 6 weeks for that "perfect deal".

Hope that helps,
-jim

I dont think you are going to find a 55 gallon tank that is 48" long and 18" deep/wide. As far as i know they dont make one cause it would only be about 12-15 inches tall/height.

Saw a tank at my LFS today that was close to what you are looking for, they called it a "55 tub". I'll try to get the specs next time I'm in there, but it may be worth googling or asking your LFS about. Could save a lot of cash if that tub size works for you.

Hope that helps,

my 55 is 18 inches tall and 12 inches wide and as i got it for free i cant imagine it would be to expensive. A;thought the tank is 6-7 years old.
